TheBeast

RQR-Monster v2 aka "TheBeast" is an octocopter with 5" propellers. It was initially designed beginning 2019 by my dear friend Mane based on my ideas and manufactured at smartshapes.de.

The reasoning behind was that i liked to own the fastest octocopter and i think until now it is with a top speed of 265km/h.

It has overcome several changes on electronics and motors since then.

Current setup

  • T-Motor F60 pro III 2500kv
  • APC 5.2x6 propeller
  • IRC tramp HV vtx

RQR-Boreas 10" vertical

I like vertical frames. And i had some 10" HQ props as well as Brotherhobby Avenger v2 2812 - 1115kv laying around.
Therefore i contacted my good friend Mane if he is willing to design a custom frame around the components. He did and after some weeks i got the milled carbonfibre parts from smartshapes.de
That was the birth of RQR - Boreas 😉 .. March 2021

7" LOS quad

The 7" Warthoxquad frame is in use to train and fly LOS in acro mode.
It was build initially to be powered by a 4S Lipo but...

One of my racing buddies (viva la France, Raphael 😁) showed me COB LED's that can be powered by 24V. You can get them from Amazon as e.g. as https://www.amazon.de/Streifen-Tesfish-Insgesamt-Lichtleisten-Wohnkultur/dp/B09C86F3BS/?th=1
I power the LED's directly from the Lipo and moved to 6S to have the right voltage.

Setup

  • Warthoxquad frame
  • KISS FC v2
  • KISS ESC 32A
  • Brotherhobby Avenger V2 1850kv
  • HQprop 7x4x3 v1s
  • ImmersionRC Ghost Atto RX
  • Tattu R-Line v5.0 6S 1400mAh Lipo

Qaad Infinitum (purple)

Since i like boxed frames a lot and my old Singularitum's are having some light cracks already i decided to build a new racing drone based on the Qaad Infinitum frame.
Again a full FETtec setup with Ghost RX/FPV TRX.

Initial setup at Felix's birthday party

Initially the setup was with a FETtec AiO 35A. Was flying perfectly, but..

Rework - final setup

..when exchanging the power cable i mechanically desroyed the AiO board by using M3 bolts that were too wide. Therefore the final setup has been done with G4 FC and 45A 4in1 ESC.

Komponenten

  • 650mm Rahmen mit 25mm Karbonrohren
  • Flyduino HE4108 Motoren
  • 13"x5.5" RCtimer Propeller
  • KISS ESC32A
  • Fettec G4 FC
  • Immersion RC Ghost duo v2 (RC Empfänger und FPV Sender)
  • Runcam Racer 4
  • SLS Quantum 3000mAh 6S/130C Lipo

DIY-Quadcopter (2)

To keep things short..
The DIY-Quadcopter (1) was flying but i had motor sync issues with the ESC 's.

..and the Frame was too heavy.
So i started "from scratch" again using KISS 30A ESC..
I made the frame lighter by drilling holes into the arms.

..but then i switched from Pixhawk to the Dropix FC and rebuild the frame again.
But still too heavy and it looked ugly.
Therefore i finally decided to buid from scratch again using the PRO QUAD/X8 frame with 25mm CARBON arms from quadframe.com

The original build log is in german language on http://www.kopterforum.de/topic/29580-600er-x-quad-eigenbau-baumarkt-rahmen/

Components finally used

Frame - PRO QUAD/X8 frame with 25mm CARBON arms
Motor - Flyduino HE4108 700KV Brushless Outrunner Motor
Prop - RC Timer 14x5.5" carbon prop
ESC - KISS ESC 2-6S 30A (3D fähig)
FC - Drotek DroPix Flight Controller
OSD - Micro MinimOSD KissFC OSD FW preflashed / PAL flashed with minimosd-extra
FPV Camera - FatShark 700TVL V2 - 5v FPV Kamera 1/3" CMOS
VTX - TBS Unify pro HV
FPV Antenna - CL from PeteR
PDB - Drotek Power module Pro (5V & 12V / Voltage & Current sensor)

DIY-Quadcopter (1)

Already a long time ago the idea was born to build a quadcopter completely from scratch.
During the past days i started with the frame construction.

The initial specs i made were
  • overall weight <5kg
  • able to lift ~1kg payload
  • >15min flight time
based on this i started some research on the hardware and the outcome are the following components

  • Frame
    • selfmade frame of 15mm Aluminium rod / 70cm frame diameter.
    • rubber damper between frame and electronic (M4 screw thread).
    • M4 spacers.
  • Flyduino HE4108 700KV Brushless Outrunner Motor with ~13" props.
  • Dys 40A Multikopter ESC Opto "SimonK" V2.
  • 3DR Pixhawk autopilot.
  • FrSky Taranis RC.
  • depending on the power consumption i will decide on a battery later.

After seeing the following video i decided to stack two frames as well to get more stability.

I hope i could fly one day this way as well. But this will be a long way to go. Especially for me as a weekend only pilot.
